Fanling Courthouse

Dear Bikers and Car-enthusiasts,

As you may have seen at the "Motorcycle Show 2007" I continue to ask Government if CAM can establish a "Motor Museum" in Hong Kong. We have many classic cars, motorcycles, bicycles, toys, and memorabilia sitting around HK (see www.cam-hk.com) that could easily be used to create a Museum. This idea is proposed to be a non-profit making Cultural Facility that will :

  1. Be a Tourism attraction - a Motor Museum.
  2. Be a focus in HK for "Motor-heads" (Bikers and Car Owners) to meet at weekends. Imagine a HOG Show one weekend, Ferrari Exhibit the next, Classic Bike Show the following, etc, etc ... all we need is a venue!

Government have suggested that the old Courthouse in Fanling may be available to Rent. See my attached proposal to convert this building into a Museum. If you consider this a good idea for Hong Kong I would appreciate your comments to show Government that the idea has 'Community' sup3Wport :
- Does your Club think this is a good idea?
- Would your Club Members use such a facility?

This is a
non-profit making Museum so relies on Government to approve the idea, then I have to find $$$-funding from Sponsors (Banks, large-Companies, etc!). If your Club Committee would like me to present and explain the proposals I would be happy to do so. We already have support from HKAutomobile Association, HOG, Classic Bike Club, Classic Car Club, MG Club, etc, etc. We want to create a venue in HK where all the Bikers and Car-enthusiasts can go at the weekend ... like the 'Rock Store' in LosAngeles or the 'Ace Cafe' in London. We can have a "Motorcycle Show" every weekend, and meet our Biker/Car-friends in Fanling!!!

Regards,

IAN

Progress of Proposals

2009

On 28th December, 2009 CAM submitted a proposal to convert the Former Fanling Magistaracy building to a "Motor Museum." This submission to the 'Development Bureau' was in response to the Government's initiative for the "Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme." CAM's scheme is to create an interesting Culural Museum for tourists and local visitors, as well as establishing a focus for Motoring Enthusiasts in Hong Kong. If you consider our proposal a positive one for Hong Kong, please let us know to ian@netvigator.com. Your support will help this idea become a reality.

Museum in United Kingdom

2006

CAM at Fanling Courthouse
The
Classic Auto-cycle Museum (CAM) Club was formed to pursue the idea of creating a Motor Museum in Hong Kong. Government suggested the vacant Fanling Magestracy as a suitable building. After surveying the structure CAM agreed that this would make an excellent venue for a Museum. The Museum Concept has now been submitted to the HK Government on 12 Nov. 2007 for consideration.

If you conisder this proposal a good idea for HK, please tell us so. Any comments & suggestions are welcome.

2006

Co-operation with Macau GP Museum
Following the successful joint organized Show and Parade at MacauGP we loaned one of our Motorcycles to the Macau GP Museum. This bike, known as the “
Macau GP 40th Anniversary Bike.” has been autographed by the famous past-Winners as well as all the 2006 Race competitors.

2001

CCCHK Museum at Ma Tau Kok
In 2001 Ian Foster introduced the concept, to create a Classic Car Museum, to the Classic Car Club of Hong Kong (CCCHK). The location he chose was the derelict Ma Tau Kok cattle depot. CCCHK withdrew from the concept due to Governments concerns about adjacent Town Gas tanks, financing, and car display concerns.

2001

CBCHK mini-Museum at Tai Mo Shan
Classic Bike Club of Hong Kong (CBCHK) developed a Concept Proposal to create a ‘Mecca for Bikers’ on Tai Mo Shan, one of the Territories weekend destinations for the Biking and Car enthusiasts. This was modeled on the popular “Rock Store” in Los Angeles and “Ace Cafe” in London. This proposal was rejected by Government as the site, an abandoned radar station, was located within a Country Park.

1999

Government Consultant Studies
Ian Foster (Architect RIBA / Urban Designer) worked as a Design Consultant for the HK Government’s Planning Department between 1999 to 2001.
During that time he worked on a number of sites containing Heritage buildings. The task was to find an appropriate reuse for these derelict structures. In one such Study Ian proposed that a Classic Car Museum could be facilitated in the existing buildings. The concept was openly accepted by Government, if a privately funded Museum could be established.
